About Bowery Residents Committee
On West 25th Street in New York City in New York, you’ll find the Bowery Residents Committee’s main office. This office can refer you to their many programs in the Big Apple. This includes substance use treatment, harm reduction and counseling services to adults. They also help with housing, work skills, and mental health concerns.
The Bowery neighborhood was part of New York City’s skid row in the '70s. A group of residents decided to make a difference and founded the organization that became BRC. They wanted to help those in need with addiction treatment and social services.
Residential and Outpatient Addiction Treatment in New York City
BRC offers medical detox services through their Chemical Dependency
Crisis Center (CDCC), which has 32 beds. I like that the CDCC is free of charge to clients and the team can provide care for substance use, mental health concerns, and co-occurring disorders. They also provide medical care here, as many clients have complex needs.
The organization also runs the Fred Cooper Substance Abuse Services Center (SASC), which has outpatient substance use treatment, including treatment for joint mental health concerns.
BRC also helps clients connect with necessary social services, including housing, case management, legal services, employment preparation and medication assistance. They also provide information about syringe exchange programs and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Additional Services for Older New York Residents
One thing that caught my eye was their specialty program for older adults. They have a senior center that connects older residents with health services, help with education, nutritious meals, and recreational activities.
This can be a significant support for older adults who're struggling with loneliness, health concerns and other issues that make them more susceptible to substance use or relapse.
