About Bowie Memorial Hospital: Emergency Room
The Bowie Memorial Hospital had quite a history. The previously closed hospital reopened its emergency room (under the Faith Community Health System) in 2023 before once again shutting its doors in 2024. This rural hospital setting was located in Bowie, Texas.
As with all emergency room settings, this one provided emergency care for those in the throes of a behavioral health or substance abuse emergency dating back to 1966. While its final closure has complicated drug care for the local community, there are other hospitals and dedicated addiction treatment centers nearby that continue this important work.
Emergency Care
For me, the biggest perk of an emergency room is the 24/7 access. This is obviously great for any situation, but it’s especially useful for those who experience mental health or addiction issues whose judgment is impaired and could lead to life altering decisions. ERs like this offer vital stabilization services and immediate health care support when you need it most.
Establishing Continuing Care
Another aspect of emergency care I like is that they never leave patients empty handed. If you visit an ER for a mental health or addiction crisis, your aftercare will typically include contact with a primary or specialized care provider to establish ongoing treatment. This guidance is great for those who want to take the first step toward recovery but don’t know where to go.

Many gender-specific issues must be addressed during addiction recovery. Women’s rehab in Texas provides the appropriate support for women’s challenges such as body image, motherhood, and trauma.
Levels of Care
Outpatient rehab in Texas provides a means for addition treatment while you live at home. You will attend regular therapy sessions and typically maintain involvement with a 12-step program. Because it is tailored for each person’s needs, there is no set timeline for completion of outpatient rehab.
A dual diagnosis treatment center in Texas provides programs for people who struggle with both substance abuse and mental illness. Treating both disorders through an integrated approach is essential for recovery.
