A new low-cost rehab center is now open in the St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling in Louisiana. This center focuses on structured addiction and mental health treatment to adults who accept Medicaid, Medicare and most commercial insurance plans.
Nestled near the Mississippi River and not far from New Orleans, Luling already features several inpatient and outpatient options for local residents, many of which had affordable and flexible treatment plans. With this new intensive outpatient program (IOP) center for behavioral health, the 47 physicians and assisting staff at St. Charles and city leaders hope to expand access to care for folks across the region who previously faced financial or logistical barriers to treatment.
What the New Rehab Center Offers
The IOP offers services for adults experiencing mental health challenges or substance use disorders who need more hands-on attention than what they can get from traditional outpatient care, but not overnight hospital stays.
Two treatment tracks are available: a mental wellness program for dual diagnoses for conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, and a recovery program for individuals seeking treatment for alcohol or drug use, including opioids.
Counseling approaches include cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), relapse prevention, group therapy, and individual sessions. It’s all supervised by a team of psychiatrists, social workers, counselors and nursing staff.
Who Qualifies for Free or Low-Cost Treatment
The center accepts Medicaid and commercial insurance, and offers transportation within a 25-to-30-mile radius. This makes the program significantly more accessible for uninsured and underinsured residents compared to many private facilities.
For those who qualify for Medicaid rehab coverage in Louisiana, this program may be available at little or no out-of-pocket cost. Medicare rehab coverage also applies, making this a strong option for older adults and individuals with disabilities seeking addiction or mental health treatment.
Hospital CEO Keith Dacus noted that nearly 20% of adults face mental illnesses each year, but many of these individuals face obstacles to treatment. The new IOP center is designed specifically to close that gap.
