County Funded Substance Use Disorder Care

Bergen County’s DHS provides an Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) which provides outpatient care to Bergen County residents. This program focuses on evidence based therapy which relies heavily on CBT and DBT along with motivational interviewing to help people understand the cause of their addiction and build helpful tools to overcome temptation in the future.

You can choose the intensive outpatient program (IOP) which meets more frequently each week to provide more enhanced support for people just beginning their sobriety journey. All programs include individual, group, and family counseling along with relapse prevention support and an option to participate in 12 step programs. Services can also be accessed via telemedicine and are available in Spanish too.

Residential Support

The Bergen County DHS can also refer you to other facilities if you need more specialized or intensive rehab. For example, eligible women can participate in Spring House which is located in Paramus, a major town within Bergen County.

This residential home provides a sober living environment for up to 34 women. While staying here, you are expected to participate in counseling services and access resources as needed to continue your sobriety journey.

A Comprehensive Program

Bergen County’s DHS can also provide other behavioral health support and works with people who need dual diagnosis care. It coordinates with the judicial system and can work with people facing DUI or DWI charges. DHS accepts Medicaid, can offer payment assistance, and provides a sliding scale fee.
