About Behavioral Systems Southwest

Behavioral Systems Southwest Phoenix Residential Re-entry Center is operated on behalf of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. This center is in Phoenix, Arizona, and helps inmates transition out of prison and into a productive daily life. Services include drug testing, referrals to substance use treatment and help with housing and employment.

This program is not covered by health insurance, but any treatment they refer you to may be covered. They require employed participants to contribute up to 25% of their gross income to offset the cost of the program.

Preparing to Reenter the Community in Phoenix

I think this center serves an important role in the prison system by helping ensure those who leave prison are able to get work, find housing and get other stabilization services that will help them live lawfully and avoid reoffense going forward. The Phoenix program lasts four to six months and includes home detention near the end if there’s an approved home location. It’s a structured program with specific signout procedures, location tracking, random drug testing and other accountability measures.

I like that they also help inmates find employment and housing and connect them to medical and mental health services. These supports are designed to help them re-enter the community with stability and in good health.
