About Beacon Therapeutic Diagnostic & Treatment Center
The Beacon Therapeutic Center was located in Chicago, Illinois, but has closed its doors. They did offer some really unique programs there. They provided that helped five to 12 year old children with severe emotional and behavioral needs including one that was designed to empower teens and provide opportunities for them to learn in a community setting while gaining valuable life skills. They also had a homeless outreach program for women and children.
Help for Emotional and Behavioral Disorders
Children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders usually have a hard time getting through school, and this program was designed to help. They focussed on giving these children the support they needed as well as helping to build skills and providing extra education to become better students.
Homeless Outreach
Their homeless outreach program provided women and children with education, mental and behavioral health issues, which may have included substance abuse, and medical treatment and helped them transition to living successfully on their own. I appreciate that they helped those who entered this program learn to live on a budget and keep up with everyday tasks around the home while providing a fresh start for the family.
Teen Service Corps
I really like one program they still have available called Teen Service Corps. It’s designed to help show teens the importance of helping out and giving back to the community.
Teens who work in this program will go out into the community and do service projects and engage with others on how to make the community a better and more inclusive place for all. I think it’s a great way to build leadership skills and help your portfolio when you apply for colleges or jobs.
