About Bay Area Community Services – Woodroe Place
Bay Area Community Services (BACS) operates the Woodroe Place in Hayward, California. This is a residential program for those experiencing a crisis related to a mental health or substance use disorder (SUD). The program is designed to stabilize individuals and guide them onto the next step of treatment while reducing hospital intakes.
This program combines safe and stable housing with specialized, 24/7 care. In addition to serving as an on-ramp to SUD treatment for those new to the process, it can be a valuable tool for those who are in or have already been through treatment as well, by providing them with temporary support during unexpected emergencies.
A Relaxing Setting
While you may find the services offered in Woodroe Place similar to those of an emergency room or hospital, I believe one key difference is the setting itself. Staff have carefully crafted an environment that mimics the familiarity of home, eschewing the overwhelmingly clinical trappings one might expect. You’re living here during your stay, after all, so it only makes sense to have the setting feel lived in and inviting.
Setting Up Long Term Success
I think it’s helpful that crisis stabilization is the goal of the program, but your care team will keep an eye on your long term prospects as well. While you’re working on the immediate problems you’re experiencing, you’ll be collaborating with staff on what the next steps will look like on your path to addiction recovery. It’s a long term plan looking at what level of care would be best for your situation, in addition to other support services (like case management) you might benefit from.
A Community Setting
Though this is a short term program, you’re still encouraged to connect with others in recovery during your stay. This is facilitated through numerous groups and communal living spaces that promote sharing and socialization. It’s just a small reflection of how social connections can support positive moods and sobriety maintenance.
