About Bay Area Community Services (BACS) Thunder Road and Administrative HQ

The Oakland, California based Thunder Road became part of Bay Area Community Resources in 2016. This facility is their main headquarters and administrative office. Here, the team provides substance abuse and co-occurring care treatment and support to afflicted youths and their families through a range of inpatient and outpatient options.

They specialize in intensive inpatient treatment, allowing clients to tackle especially difficult cases of substance use disorder (SUD). I found that treatment is available for teens aged 13 to 18 years old. Clients from all backgrounds experience the same quality of treatment. They help clients in several difficult situations including those in foster care, without housing, and on probation.

Peer Support Integration

For every challenge one can experience in the pursuit of freedom from addiction, there are usually multiple solutions. For example, peer support options like those incorporated into this program can help teens and young adults see that they aren’t alone in their experiences. It can be especially encouraging for teens to connect with other teens in the recovery process.

Extensive Case Management

Case managers work tirelessly to ensure clients are getting all the support they need from available resources inside and outside the treatment program. The role they play is especially important to young clients or those new to treatment because they are often unaware of what additional resources exist for them. Case managers bridge this gap, and their work often continues after treatment ends.

Case managers will often work with the whole family, too. This can help your loved ones manage their own difficulties as well as the challenges the whole family is facing. They don’t necessarily have to be related to addiction, as case workers will often connect clients with social services designed to support independent living.
