About Atlanta Step Up Society Thrift
The Atlanta Step Up Society is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping veterans who are experiencing homelessness or addiction. The goal of Step Up is to assist clients in curbing addictions to alcohol and other chemicals and help them rebuild their lives.
Step Up previously operated a thrift store to support their efforts. This location has since closed, but the Step Up organization continues to serve the community of Atlanta through other services.
Transitional Housing
The Atlanta Step Up Society facility seeks to facilitate independence and recovery in clients who are under privileged, homeless, veterans, active military members, coping with an AIDS or HIV diagnosis, or otherwise under served.
One primary service they offer is traditional housing with structured environments. This residential program includes managers who live in the housing units, house managers, and house parents. The program is most fitting for individuals in early recovery.
For individuals farther along in the recovery process, the Atlanta Step Up Society has a comprehensive rehabilitation inpatient treatment program, therapy, and aftercare support. The inpatient program offers continuous monitoring and medical assistance.
Therapy is available for individuals, couples, families, and groups. The purpose of these therapy sessions is to help clients identify the root causes of addiction, share experiences, create a supportive environment, and develop relapse plans.
Helping the Atlanta Community Since 1994
One unique aspect of this facility is that it was founded and is currently operated by formerly homeless individuals. The facility isn’t far from Piedmont Park, offering recreational activities and scenic walking trails. It’s also close to Ansley Mall, a shopping center with plenty of stores and eateries.
