About Army Substance Abuse Program

The Army Substance Abuse Program helps to strengthen and enhance the mission readiness of soldiers and is available in Fort Dix, New Jersey. The program deters and prevents substance use and treats soldiers with substance use disorder (SUD) and co-occurring mental health issues.

It includes SUD clinical care and outpatient addiction treatment services. Clients are allowed to smoke or vape in designated areas of the facility only.

The program is for adult men and women who are veterans or on active duty, as well as their family members. Many veterans and active duty service personnel have experienced trauma, which can be a contributing factor to substance use and dependence, so I think this is a great program to help veterans and military personnel.

The program includes risk reduction, biochemical testing, prevention education and suicide prevention services. Clients involved in the program receive behavioral and SUD clinical healthcare services through a unit aligned and clinical manner.

Employee Assistance Program

The SUD clinical care services are provided through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). I like that the EAP is free and confidential and provides short term intervention, screening and referral services. They also provide consultation services, worksite intervention, crisis intervention and a variety of training and assistance programs.

The program helps clients identify any issues that negatively affect their personal well being and job performance. With the program being on the Fort Dix Army Base, clients have access to outdoor recreation, fitness centers and the John F. Mann Recreational Park.
