About Arbor House Supportive Living Program

You may find a supportive living home ideal if you’re recovering from substance use disorder and need a safe and stable living environment to reinforce your sobriety. The Arbor House — Oswego County (located in Hannibal, New York) is such a residence, giving adult men in recovery a place to find peace as they continue to work on their sobriety.

Note that facilities like this don’t offer addiction treatment themselves. Residents are encouraged to continue their recovery journey how they see fit, and so long as they follow the rules of the house, they can continue to stay. Since it’s not a treatment program, they don’t accept insurance.

Recovery in a Rural Setting

I think Hannibal is a great place to find recovery because of its rural setting. There’s more privacy and fewer distractions as you navigate the ups and downs of sober living and map out what you want for your future. The facility itself is close to Hannibal Town Center, too, giving you a gateway to the community at large.

Greater Control

Sober living homes like these are designed for those in the early stages of recovery, who have either completed or are still in treatment. Unlike residential treatment programs that combine treatment with shelter, these facilities are largely independent and much less restrictive. This allows you to structure your day however you see fit, building a recovery and sobriety strategy as you like.

Clients are encouraged to participate in outpatient treatment if they haven’t already. You can also find nearby support groups and integrate them into your daily life. What I like about this level of freedom is that you’re allowed to move and work toward your goals at your own pace.

Staff Support

Though they don’t provide SUD treatment themselves, staff are still available to support you. Their goal is to work with you on identifying short term and long term goals, then aid you in achieving them.
