About ARAD Shelter Program

The ARAD Shelter Program in Amarillo, Texas, is 20 minutes away from the airport and located just next to the magical Botanical Gardens of Amarillo. The center provided a full range of services from detoxification treatment to aftercare services. The center has since closed and reopened as part of the Cenikor network.

When it was open, ARAD accepted a number of insurance coverages and offered a financial assistance program for those who are eligible.

Inpatient and Outpatient Detoxification

Medically supervised detox treatment was offered as an inpatient or outpatient service depending on your level of withdrawals. Inpatient treatment was available for adults and youths and consisted of individual counseling, group counseling, and bonding with client peers. You also learned and practiced the 12 Steps with your peers.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment and Groups

Intensive outpatient treatments were attended in person or virtually. Clients spent 10 to 12 weeks attending group sessions for three hours per day three days per week. Group treatment used trauma informed education to promote client recovery. We can assure you this was a modern treatment that was proven effective.

Group topics included relapse prevention, overdose prevention, and setting boundaries. As most substance use is done socially, you learned how to establish healthy social relationships and effective communication. Some types of substance use placed the user at risk for diseases. The course covers HIV/STD education.

Medication Assisted Treatment for Addiction

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) was offered for users of alcohol and opioids. The treatment was provided in conjunction with individual counseling sessions. After you were established as a patient, you attended these sessions virtually. Evening and weekend appointments were available.

Even though ARAD is closed, they were replaced by Cenikor, which offers similar programs.
