About Aroostook Mental Health Center – Closed

Aroostook Mental Health Center is a nonprofit behavioral health center that once operated a residential treatment center called The Farm, located in Limestone, Maine. They've been doing what they do for over 60 years and operate a total of 27 service locations across different counties in Maine. Over all those years, they've helped out about 5,500 clients every year and have a team of more than 350 employees.

Life on The Farm

They treated drug and alcohol addictions as well as mental health disorders and offered an impressive range of treatment options for individuals and families. Their services were designed to help many populations, such as youth, adults, and families. They offered inpatient programs and outpatient programs to adjust to people’s needs, but here we focused on their residential program.

Some standard services included individual therapy and group therapy. They incorporated therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and relapse prevention to help clients in their present state and in the future.

They also operated a 24/7 crisis call center that could provide immediate support during a mental health crisis. They offered some more niche services, such as a specialized sexual assault service that included counseling and crisis intervention for that specific situation.

It’s also worth noting that they engaged with the community through outreach and education on substance abuse and mental health via prevention programs. They offered medication-assisted treatment and incorporated 12-step practices as well.

Micah Wall Recovery Scholarship

Another thing I noted was their Micah Wall Recovery Scholarship. This scholarship was created to help individuals access vital recovery services, especially people who were facing financial challenges.

Though this location is now closed, they’ve opened up a new, larger residential center in Presque Isle to replace it.
