About Alpha House

Alpha House is a residential treatment community with 30 beds for adults. You'll find 'em located down in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They’ve provided personalized and whole person substance use treatment for over 50 years. They’re close to Mellon Park and just five miles northeast of bustling downtown Pittsburgh. Transportation is readily accessible. Port Authority Transit runs several routes with stops near this location on Shady Avenue.

They offer a homely place of healing where you can reconnect with yourself and work with others to build a purposeful life. Alpha House has the feel of a grand estate, with their lush carpets, patterned curtains, open spaces, and even a corner piano. Meals and toiletries are provided.

Upon admission, you're welcomed into a committed and supportive network of peers. You share rooms, and your peers will help you stay motivated and work on personal recovery goals. You’ll attend group and individual therapy sessions. This uses the cognitive behavioral model of care to help change your patterns of thinking and behavior that lead to substance misuse.

The program also tackles issues like trauma, generational oppression, and tough life experiences that often lead to substance use. You’ll learn how to manage frustration and build healthy relationships and self-confidence.

You’ll also learn and practice daily skills and actively participate in cooking and cleaning with your peers. This is a great way to build character, patience and personal responsibility. You’re encouraged to practice positive communication, problem solving and teamwork throughout the process.

You’ll receive educational support, occupational or vocational training and even legal assistance as necessary. Job training prepares you for potential career opportunities when you reenter your community. You’ll obtain referrals for health and social services as well.

With the guidance and support of the staff you’ll sort out family issues that may impact your lasting recovery. The program incorporates therapeutic outings to make things more fun. This may include a visit to Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium located within the nearby Highland Park. It’s expected that as you reenter the community upon graduation, you’ll have built the right skills to maintain your recovery and adapt to daily life with confidence.
