Healing Through Nature

Located 30 minutes from central Portland, this addiction treatment provider is nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley. Known as “Oregon Wine Country,” the area is famous for its rolling hills, idyllic scenery and quaint small towns. For the team at the Alliance Counseling center, the region’s natural beauty is an integral part of treatment. As one clinician said, "We believe that nature is a missing link in customary treatment plans. In contrast to traditional treatment, The Center's goal is to bring the force of nature front and center into the overall treatment plan."

At the center, situated on 60 acres of wooded farmland, patients can avail themselves of several outdoor spaces and activities that support healing and recovery, including hiking trails, a creek, community garden, fire pits, an archery range and covered yoga platform. Many clients have expressed that the program’s nature based treatment is transformative and incredibly helpful in their journey. To me, that’s an excellent sign.

Animal Therapy Programs

This provider is also home to a host of therapeutic animals, including horses, mini horses, donkeys, barn cats, goats and pigs, and offers an equine therapy program. Personally, I think that’s wonderful since animals can offer so much love and empathy and help to restore trust — all crucial components of rehab and healing. Such programs may be particularly valuable for neurodiverse people, children and people with depression, anxiety or trauma, as well as those struggling with addiction.
