About AICC

Alcohol Information and Counseling Center (AICC) was a specialized treatment program that specifically targeted alcohol addiction and provided comprehensive services to treat this form of substance use disorder in a secluded corner of Lapeer, Michigan. It was part of the Lapeer County Health Department. However, the center is now closed.

While alcohol addiction was the primary condition being treated, I appreciated that there were multiple other therapeutic services offered here to treat underlying mental illness or behavioral health concerns. AICC also provided services in sign language for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Extensive Assessment Capabilities

A key feature I noted with AICC was that this facility provided a wide range of assessments to ensure that participants receive the proper care. This included not just breathalyzers and blood alcohol screenings, but screening for drugs, mental disorders, and tobacco use. Likewise, you could take advantage of outreach and interim services to connect with local ongoing community services.

Outpatient Care

AICC offered an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a traditional outpatient program which was more flexible and allowed for greater freedom to maintain long standing obligations. Both programs gave you access to comprehensive therapy, motivational interviewing, anger management, contingency management, matrix modeling, and even an option for telemedicine to provide more accessibility.

Aftercare Support

Another nice feature I appreciated with AICC was the extensive aftercare support provided to its participants. From discharge planning to naloxone and overdose education, you could access continuing care and be at ease knowing that case managers provided follow-ups after you’re discharged. Other features included support in securing stable housing, obtaining social services, and even helped build social skills or secure transportation to secure a job or attend counseling sessions.

AICC accepted insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, federal and government funding for drug treatment programs, and self payment.

Alcoholism

The backbone of most alcohol rehab in Michigan is a combination of individual and group therapy methods. Through these sessions, individuals learn how to address issues contributing to addiction and develop healthy lifestyle habits.

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan, participants do more than talk with their therapists. This is an engaging, hands-on approach that requires active participation. Individuals work with their therapist to change their thought and behavior patterns to overcome addiction.

Levels of Care

Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient rehab in Michigan is tailored to each person’s recovery journey. This treatment usually involves several hours of therapy sessions each week, along with attendance at support group meetings. However, the timeline varies from a few weeks, to months, to years, based on your needs.

Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health

A dual diagnosis treatment center in Michigan allows you to get treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders at the same time. This is critical, because untreated mental health disorders often lead to relapse and poor recovery outcomes.
