About Al – Anon Information Services

Al – Anon Information Services is a logistical hub for Information Services in Sacramento, California. The city has a diverse population of roughly 525,000 with a rich Gold Rush history and Mediterranean climate. It has become increasingly popular for young professionals and young families. Local areas of interest include Midtown, which is a cultural hub and Capitol Park, which is a massive historic greenspace that surrounds the state capital.

Care for Teenagers Affected by a Loved One's Drinking

Al-Anon is a worldwide Fellowship that provides support to families and friends of alcoholics. Included in this umbrella is Alateen, designed for younger individuals in the family whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking.

Alateen meetings are for younger people ages 11 to 19 years. This peer-based, weekly meeting is run by teens with the guidance of an adult. Teens can walk into any confidential meeting where no member lists are kept and attendance is not tracked.

Teenagers are not required to share at meetings. Just attending can help you understand the effect of someone else's drinking on your life by listening to the effect it has on others.

Professional Group Meetings

The Information Service Center offers families multiple ways of participating in Al-Anon outside of actively attending meetings. I like that Al-Anon family groups are a community resource for folks who're negatively affected by others' drinking. The professional group offers healthcare or mental health care professionals a place to talk about how their loved one’s or client's alcoholism is affecting them.

I also like that the Information Service Center provides Al-Anon Services inside correctional facilities and other institutions, such as psychiatric units or hospitals. This provides people with the opportunity to receive services when they are not able to travel.
