About El Regreso Mens Residential
El Regresso Men’s Residential is part of the Acacia Network - the largest Hispanic led nonprofit in New York State. The organization works to improve the lives of those who live in underserved communities in New York City. The men’s facility is on South 2nd Street in Brooklyn, New York, and houses a residential substance use and co occurring mental health disorder treatment program for men 18 and older.
Treatment for Men in Brooklyn, New York
Some of the notable aspects of this program I saw are the culturally responsive programming, trauma informed treatment approach, and welcoming environment. The men attend group and individual counseling. If a client has an identified co occurring mental health disorder, that will be addressed in the program.
Clients with opioid use disorder can receive a referral for medication assisted treatment (MAT) as well. This is an integrated treatment program embracing a holistic approach, so clients can get primary care referrals for treatment of medical issues. The program aims to improve both the mental and physical health of the clients.
Supportive Services Beyond Residential Treatment in Brooklyn
The staff helps clients with benefits enrollment, education, and vocational services. Through their affiliate, Seedco, they connect clients to professional development and employment opportunities. Seedco is effective in helping clients with employment barriers to find jobs, stay in them, and advance in the workplace.
Another interesting and unique program in the network is Loisaida, Inc. which also includes the Loisaida Center. The Center is a multi use facility downtown that connects communities, scholars, artists, and students with affordable education opportunities in cultural and academic fields.
The multi use facility serves to incubate entrepreneurial initiatives in the culinary arts, technology, and the arts. The programs work to reduce social and economic disenfranchisement of poor low income Latinx residents. They achieve this through employment opportunities, neighborhood revitalization activities, and youth development initiatives.
