About Acacia Network El Regreso
The Acacia Network's goal is to improve the quality of life for those in underserved communities in the Big Apple. One of the many services they offer is treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. They're also the largest Hispanic-led nonprofit in New York. The El Regresso facility on South 3rd Street in metropolitan Brooklyn is a residential substance use treatment center for women. The organization accepts many insurance plans, including some Medicaid and Medicare health plans.
Substance Use Disorder Treatment for Moms in Brooklyn
One thing I love about this program is it accepts all women: pregnant or not, mothers with children, and moms who are working to get their children back. The program lasts between 6-12 months.
Treatment is holistic and trauma informed. Trauma informed care includes welcoming spaces, culturally responsive treatment interventions, and client involved decision making. Keeping clients fully informed and involved in every aspect of their treatment offers a sense of empowerment and makes treatment more effective.
Communities of color have suffered abuse from the power structure, so clients from these communities are often more hesitant than others to seek treatment. The center uses culturally competent care plans to offer clients a higher level of trust in services.
Beyond El Regresso: Supportive Community Services
I think clients will appreciate the comprehensive network of services offered by the organization. Beyond the residential treatment center, clients can get access to primary care services, workforce development, homeless shelters, affordable and supportive housing, and food distribution services. They offer education, youth development, and senior services.
I came across a unique program in the network called Loisaida. The program works to reduce the disenfranchisement of low income and poor Latinx residents. They offer training and employment opportunities as well as neighborhood activities that revitalize and celebrate the cultural heritage and contributions of New York City’s Latin American and Puerto Rican residents.
