Acacia Counseling and Wellness -- Goleta was a mental health and substance abuse treatment center located in Goleta, California, focused on assisting college students and staff. They've since been merged with Mindspring, who continue the mission of providing behavioral health and addiction care to college students. Unfortunately, the Goleta location is permanently closed, but you'll find similar services at Mindspring clinics.

The strength of this facility was its diverse team of professional care providers. This allowed them to tackle a broad range of concerns with a multitude of approaches, giving clients more choice in their treatment.

Specializing in College Care

This location focused on the mental health needs of college students. Though they treated other people too, the mission to help college students and staff meant that treatment could take a unique, personalized form. With therapy targeting stressors that arise in life, staff were well versed in the issues that led to addiction and mental health concerns in college environments.

Mindpath, who acquired this location, continues to build on this mission. They no longer operate in Goleta, but they do have locations throughout California.

Short or Long Term Therapy

If you've been looking at different SUD programs for any length of time, you've likely seen some facilities have strict timetables for treatment, such as 30 day programs. While these time limits could be in place for any number of reasons, they carry one glaring weakness: everyone recovers at a different pace. Programs with a fixed pace risk being ineffective for some people.

I appreciate that this facility recognized this problem and offered its own flexible terms as a result. This allowed clients to focus on both long term and immediate issues in their lives while accommodating everyone seeking therapy.

In Depth Assessments

This location took a whole person's view of one's health before beginning therapy. They'd assess physical, nutritional, and sleep needs, among other things, and follow up with additional medical care as needed. I like this approach and others like it because it recognizes how interlinked the different areas of our health are.
