About AAMA Prevention & Counseling Offices
AAMA is an organization dedicated to supporting Latinos, and it’s based in Houston, Texas. Their Prevention and Counseling offices in Houston provide outpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health issues for adults and adolescents as well as testing and education for HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis.
Many of their programs are available in English and Spanish. AAMA also provides school-based prevention programs.
Project Tejas Substance Use Treatment for Adults
The substance use treatment available through AAMA is culturally sensitive and offers in person and virtual sessions.
They start with a comprehensive assessment to determine where to focus your treatment. AAMA’s program features individual and group therapy as well as family education and support. Addiction affects the whole family, and having counseling for family members who are sensitive to the family dynamics in the Hispanic community can be very helpful in clients’ long term recovery.
Project Tejas also has a variety of educational programs, including life skills classes. I noticed that they help you with relapse prevention strategies and provide recovery peer support. Peers have been through what you’re going through and can offer encouragement and connect you to helpful community resources and social services.
Casa Phoenix Outpatient Treatment for Adolescents
I like that they also have adolescent focused addiction treatment. Casa Phoenix serves youth aged 12 to 17 and has a program for transitional aged youth from 18 to 25. These programs have a family focus, helping parents and caregivers understand addiction and how to be a supportive ally in their child’s recovery.
The services in the youth program are similar to the adult program, with individual, group, and family therapy, relapse prevention and education, and peer support.
